ABSTRACT

The emergence of the entrepreneur and the enterprise as factors of economic development in modern societies has attracted the attention of theorists in the field of development of nations. Thus, entrepreneurship refers to the dimension of agency versus structure in social action because it reflects the spirit of adventure and risk-taking that are necessary for the mobilization of structural resources for the purpose of economic development of nations. But entrepreneurship is not sufficient to ensure economic development. Rather, it needs a set of legal institutions that guarantee the freedom of entrepreneurship and the right to enjoy private property.

This modest study aims to address the place of the entrepreneur in the legal-economic literature while focusing on the role of legal and political institutions in moderating the links between entrepreneurship and the development of nations. The study is based on the case of Western societies where business has given a privileged place to the entrepreneur.
