تهدف هذه الدراسة إلى تحليل الوضع الأمني المضطرب بمنطقة الساحل والصحراء – خاصة في مالي والنيجر – من زاوية تأثير العامل الديموغرافي الذي يضاعف من التحديات التي تواجهها هذه الدول. فالنمو السكاني السريع إلى جانب التركيبة السكانية الشابة، يفرض ضغوطا هائلة على الموارد المحدودة، بما في ذلك الأراضي الصالحة للزراعة والمياه وفرص العمل. فبالإضافة إلى تعزيز المنافسة وتفاقم الفقر، فإن هذا الوضع يعمل على خلق أرض خصبة للتجنيد في الجماعات المتطرفة والمشاركة في الأنشطة غير المشروعة في أفق تحقيق فرص بديلة للدخل حتى ولو كان ذلك على حساب أمن واستقرار هذه الدول. ومع وجود نسبة كبيرة من الشباب – تمثل 50٪ من إجمالي السكان البالغين – فإن التضخم الشبابي، في ظل ظروف سياقية اقتصادية وسياسية واجتماعية معينة كارتفاع معدلات البطالة والإقصاء والتهميش، يعمل على زيادة الإحباط بين الشباب ودفعهم نحو التطرف أو الجريمة، مما يضعف استقرار الدولة ويعزز العنف، وتعميق هشاشة كيان الدولة بالمنطقة.

A Study on the Impact of the Demographic Factor on Peace and Security in the Sahel and Sahara Region

Abstract

This study aims at analysing the situation of turbulent security in the Sahel and Sahara region, particularly in Mali and Niger, from the perspective of the demographic factor that multiplies the challenges these countries face. Rapid population growth, coupled with a youthful demographic structure, impose immense pressure on limited resources, including arable land, water, and employment opportunities. In addition to intensifying competition and worsening poverty, this situation creates fertile ground for recruitment into extremist groups and participation in illicit activities as alternative income opportunities, even at the expense of the security and stability of these countries. With a large proportion of youth—accounting for 50% of the total adult population—the youth bulge, under specific economic, political, and social conditions such as high unemployment rates, exclusion, and marginalization, which increases frustration among young people. This frustration drives them towards extremism or crime, weakening state stability, fostering violence, and deepening the fragility of state structures in the region.
